The Second Step in Your Return to Work Journey

Mar 25, 2025

Now that you've taken time to reflect on what you want from your next job, it's time to move forward with intention. Instead of diving straight into job applications, let's break things down into simple, manageable steps--so this process feels exciting, not overwhelming.

Step 1: Get Clear on Your Non-Negotiables Before you start exploring job opportunities, write down what’s most important to you. Do you need:

✔️ A flexible schedule?

✔️ Remote work options?

✔️ A job that aligns with your passions?

✔️ A role that provides financial stability?

If you’re in a position where you need a job right away, you might not have the luxury of exploring different paths. And that’s okay. Right now, the goal is to find something that meets your most immediate needs—whether that’s financial stability, benefits, or a schedule that works for your family.

Step 2: Identify Quick-Start Options.  If time is a factor, focus on roles that:

✔️ Match the skills you already have (so you can jump in quickly).

✔️ Have a faster hiring process (like contract work, customer service, or temp jobs).

✔️ Offer remote or flexible hours (so you can to and balance work and home).

Some moms start with part-time or freelance work while they figure out their long-term plan. There's no right way--just the way that works for you right now.

Step 3: Take One Small Step Today.

If you need a job ASAP, don’t wait—take one of these steps today:

✔️ Apply to 3 jobs that match your skills. Even if they’re not perfect, they can be a starting point.

✔️ Reach out to someone in your network and ask if they know of any openings.

✔️ Check out job boards for remote or flexible opportunities that fit your schedule.
