Feeling Lost After Motherhood? You Are Not Alone.
Mar 10, 2026
For many women, motherhood changes more than their schedule. It changes their identity.
You go from being a student, professional, dreamer, builder, creator--to being someone everyone depends on.
Mom.
Driver.
Scheduler.
Problem solver.
Years go by and then one day you look up and think: Who am I? Am I anything outside of motherhood?
A lot of women feel this. Not because they regret motherhood. But because so much of who they used to be got pushed to the side.
Goals.
Interests.
Parts of their personality.
Even confidence.
You spend years building a life for everyone else. And somewhere in that process, you stop asking what you want.
The Confidence Killers
Over time, a few things start to chip away at confidence.
Motherhood doesn’t erase your capability. It builds skills most workplaces desperately need.
• Time away from the workforce.
• Comparing yourself to people who stayed on a career path.
• Thinking your experience “doesn’t count.”
• Feeling like you're starting over.
Many women start telling themselves a story that sounds like this:
“I used to be capable.”
“I’m behind.”
“I don’t know if I could do that anymore.”
But that story isn’t the whole truth.
What Motherhood Actually Builds
Motherhood doesn’t erase your capability. It builds skills most workplaces desperately need.
• You learn how to manage chaos.
• You make decisions with incomplete information.
• You advocate for people who depend on you.
• You juggle priorities every single day.
In the workplace we call that:
• Leadership
• Project management
• Conflict resolution
• Strategic thinking
• Emotional intelligence
At home, it just looks like getting everyone through the day.
Reframing the Story
What if the story isn't that you lost who you were. What if the story is that you've been developing skills in one of the hardest leadership roles there is.
Motherhood changes you. But change doesn’t mean you’re finished. It means you’re becoming someone new.
Why I Started the Elavare Podcast
These conversations are exactly why I started the Elavare Podcast: How She Did It.
Each episode talks about the real journey women go through--rebuilding confidence, rediscovering identity, and figuring out what comes next. Because none of us were meant to figure this out alone.
This isn’t the end of your story. It’s another chapter. And we’re in it together. Listen to this week's episode here.
