Encouragement and Energy for Moms Re-Entering Work

Jul 22, 2025

Let’s take a deep breath together. The world is shifting. Between economic uncertainty, layoffs, and changes in the job market, it’s easy to feel a bit lost or even discouraged. If you’re a mother hoping to re-enter the workforce, you’re not just imagining it: there are more applicants for every open job, and even companies that want to hire are hesitating because of the current economic climate.

But let’s be clear: none of these challenges define you, your worth, or your future. We recognize how much moms manage every day, and how those same skills matter in any workplace. The job market may be uncertain, but your skills and what you have to offer still matter.

How to Stay Encouraged—Even Now

If the headlines feel discouraging, or you’re wondering how you’ll stand out in a sea of resumes, remember:

  • You’re not alone. There’s an entire community here--mothers who understand your journey, ready to support and uplift you.
  • Small steps are progress. Whether you’re polishing your resume, listening to a career podcast, or simply considering what comes next, every action counts.

  • Your experience matters. The work you’ve done raising a family, managing schedules, solving problems, and caring—it all adds up to leadership, empathy, and adaptability. These are exactly the strengths today’s workplaces need.

Staying Motivated With “50 Before 50”

When the job search feels slow, it’s easy to overlook the small ways you’re still moving forward. Sometimes, shifting your focus to things that bring you a little joy or spark your curiosity can help. You might try making a “50 Before 50” list--or even just a list of a few things you’d love to experience, read, or try in the coming years. It can be anything you like.

This isn’t about pressure or unrealistic expectations--it’s about reminding yourself that your life is rich with possibility, every single day. Whether you’re working or waiting, interviewing or upskilling, you can keep growing, discovering, and moving forward in ways that light you up.

  • What books have you always wanted to read?
  • Are there local places you want to visit—coffee shops, parks, museums?
  • Is there a new skill (painting, coding, gardening) you’ve dreamed of trying?
  • Maybe you want to reconnect with an old friend, volunteer, or take a solo day trip.

Write down your list—big or small, practical or playful. Pick one thing and make it happen this week or month. You’ll be surprised how even small activities create a sense of momentum, hope, and confidence that carries into every other part of your life.
