You're More Ready Than You Think

Feb 25, 2025

I know that little voice. The one that whispers: Am I really ready for this? What if I try and fail? What if I’ve been out of the game too long?

If you’ve had those thoughts, let me tell you something—you are not alone. Every mother who has stepped back into the workforce, pursued a dream, or simply tried something new has wondered the same thing. But here’s the truth: You don’t have to feel ready to be ready.

The Myth of “Feeling Ready”

We think confidence comes first, but it doesn’t. Action comes first. And with each small step, confidence grows.

Think about motherhood—did you feel 100% ready for that? No amount of reading, planning, or advice could fully prepare you. But you stepped in anyway. And guess what?

You figured it out. You grew into it. The same will happen here.

How to Take a Step Before You Feel Ready

1. Remind Yourself of What You’ve Already Done

If you’ve ever learned something new, adapted to a big change, or tackled something scary (hello, newborn baby!), you already know how to do this.

Try this: Make a list of 5 things you’ve done that once felt impossible. You’ll be surprised how often you’ve already proven your own resilience.

2. Do One Tiny, Brave Thing

You don’t have to leap—you just have to take a step. Maybe that means opening a job search tab. Maybe it means saying out loud, I think I’m ready for something more.

Try this: Choose one small action. Send an email. Sign up for a workshop. Update one line of your resume. Baby steps count.

3. Let Yourself Be a Beginner

Being new at something doesn’t mean you’re bad at it. It just means you’re learning. And learning is growth.

Try this: Instead of asking, Am I ready?, ask, What’s one thing I can try today?

I know this step can feel big. But I promise—you don’t have to be fearless to move forward. You just have to be willing. And you don’t have to do it alone.
